Yanmar Backhoe as fitted to a Yanmar YM276 compact tractor Very similar to Lewis 320 backhoe This backhoe was supplied new by Yanmar fitted to a YM276D compact tractor. A cab and loader were also supplied fitted. I bought it from the dealer as a trade-in from the original owning county council when it was approximately 4 to 5 years old and I have only used it to help maintain 2 acres of garden and 20 acres of woodland. Two people have told me it was maufactured by Kochez [spelling? ], but I have no proof of that.

It has a working specification very similar to a Lewis 320, but is more robustly made with thicker/slightly larger metal. About 3 years ago the tractor developed a gearbox problem and after much effort trying and failing to source various parts, I sold the tractor with cab and front loader. This backhoe has always been stored under cover until the spring of this year, when I had to put it outside under a tarpauline. It comes with the fitting kit for a Yanmar YM276D compact tractor apart from a couple of bolts that had to be refitted to the rear axle. It is quick and easy to attach or detach the backhoe.

But you can see from the photos that it can easily be converted to 3 point linkage or a modified linkage frame if you are handy with a welder. Two buckets are included - 16" with 2 pins and an unused 20". Soon after getting the tractor, I bought a power steering kit and various other bits including this 20" bucket as a dealer was selling off all his Yanmar bits. Two weak points - the seat, but a new one is included; just never got round to fitting it. All hoses were usable when last used, but a few hairline cracks are showing in the outter rubber covering of some, while two hoses to the legs are a little chafed.
